Hello
I have a Sony HDR-PJ30VE camcorder which comes with a 3,5 mini-jack sound plug for input.
I'd like to buy a microphone for indoor/outdoor interviews, either the Sennheiser MKE 400 or the Rode VideoMic Pro.
Since I'm a newbie, I'd like to check if this little thingie on top of the camcorder is to hook up a microphone or it's for something else (MemoryStick?):

Thank you.

it's a hot shoe. it provides a connection to the cam for certain sony accessories. or a spot to attach another brand of mic.

Thanks for the info. I'll check that the Sennheiser or the Rode can be attached to it.

they have standard shoes and will fit fine. the difference is they have no electrical contacts on the bottom.
