  1. Can someone please help. I'm trying to burn MPG movies on my hard drive to a DVD I can play on my DVD machine.

I've tried various programmes but my DVD player does not recognise the disk!

I'm now trying Ashampoo Burning Studio 6. However it wants things like Vob Ifo and Bud files!

Another programme I tried asked for the TS file?

    What is this all about?

    Many Thanks

    Ray

The process before the actual burning process is called "authoring":

If you want it to play on your DVD machine, the disc needs to be DVD compliant. Otherwise, you are merely putting video files on a DVD disc, which may play in your computer, but won't likely play on your set-top DVD machine. You need to use a DVD authoring program before you burn to disc. Read this:

EDIT: Was writing this as hech54 posted. Also read what he said.

  4. OK I'm using ImageBurn. The problem is I'm using Compro's TV Card. to record movies directly from the TV to my HDD. The format is MPG and there is no TS, file! ImageBurn is asking for the TS file.
    So where to from here?

Author it to a dvd then. You can use the old good dvd flick. Add the mpg. If your mpg streams are dvd compliant (see www.videohelp.com/dvd#tech) enable the copy dvd mpeg2 compliant stream setting in dvd flick. If not then let dvd flick reconvert or use AVStoDVD to reconvert to a standard dvd.

To re-state what was already said:If you simply burn an .mpg file onto a DVD , most DVD players will refuse to play the file, even if it is standard definition and has the right kind of audio, etc. The .mpg has to be turned into .VOBs, and put into a VIDEO_TS folder, along with some extra files with the .IFO and BUP extensions that tell the player how to play the video and audio on the DVD. That is called "authoring".

If the .mpg does not conform to the requirements for DVD video and audio it will need to be re-encoded before authoring. FAVC can convert and author. AVStoDVD will both convert and author, plus burn if ImgBurn is installed.

  8. Just drop the mpg in Simple DVD Creator to produce the vobs, then burn with ImgBurn.

Simple DVD Creator does not convert video and audio to be DVD compliant. A capture file from a TV tuner card may or may not be DVD compliant. If Simple-DVD-Creator fails to work then the OP will need to try something that can convert as well as author like AVStoDVD or FAVC.

You *really* need to read up on DVD Authoring. BTW A TS file is not the same as a VIDEO_TS folder used in DVD's. A TS file is a mpeg file and the full name is MPEG TS or Transmission Stream

When you "author" your downloaded mpeg file the authoring process will create 2 or 3 or more VOB files and IFO files and BUP file all in a folder called VIDEO_TS. It will also create a folder called AUDIO_TS but this is usually empty....

Well maybe we should be asking the OP what sort of mpg's they've got lol.

  12. Ok, I've finally loaded AVStoDVD. I now have a wuestion:

When I open a New Project or File (which is in MPG format) I get the message...'File loaded is not an AVStoDVD file) What do I do? I mean after all I'm trying to convert the MPG to a DVD format.

    Frustrated!

@ramosis - just drag and drop the file you want to convert into the source titles area of the program. That or click the little plus icon on the right of the program window - mouse over it and it will say "add title" which is what you want to do.

To add video files, click on the icon with the green "+" to the right of the Source Titles box.

Since it is doubtful that anybody here is going to lead you through all the steps of using this program to author a DVD, I would suggest that you press the Help button and read through the documentation for the Main Window there before starting a project.

  15. Brilliant, works like a dream, many thanks guys. Just one more question. The pgm came bundled with ImgBurn, shouldn't it automatically take me to the burning option after the authoring?

Yes, if AVS2DVD is configured to do that. (Select "Burn DVD" from the toolbar Output menu or from the Output Setup menu under Options on the menu bar.) Since you are new at this, I advise selecting DVD Folder Structure instead so you can check your work first before burning a disc.

New Project clears away the current project so you can start over with a new project. The extension for AVS2DVD project files is .a2d. You can see this if you click "Open" on the toolbar and look to the right of the box where you enter the file name.
