HI everyone, I have just started using DVDFlick and ImgBurn on my old XP based Dell machine with great results. However my PC is dying and i will be getting an HP computer loaded with the Windows 7-64 Bit Professional OS. And i wondered if these 2 software programs i am using will work with it. (I hope so!) So if anyone has direct experience with this i am looking for feedback. Thanks!

I've got Windows 7 Ultimate and DVD Flick works on it. All of my32bit(x86) video software (and thats a LOOOTTTT) runs on my 64bit computer in 32bit mode and I have not had to run anything in compatability but some I have to launch as administrator only because I have my security set tight.
    Thanks

Thanks budman1, (have one on me!) That's exactly what i needed to know. My father just got a new PC with W7 and he reported some programs ran, as he called it, on the x86 side also. Awesome, i should have the new PC tomorrow afternoon.

  6. The major classes of programs that don't work on 64 bit Windows are:

    1) Programs that rely on old hardware without 64 bit drivers. For example, I have a ~10 year old Epson scanner for which there are no 64 bit drivers. I don't do a lot of scanning so I run 32 bit Windows XP in VirtualBox to access the scanner.

    2) Old 16 bit DOS and Win3 programs. These can often be run with emulators like DosBox or VirtualBox. For example see this post for the old Doom Demo in DosBox:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/339237-Old-technology-running-on-new-equipment?p=21...=1#post2108691

    3) Software who's installer hard codes the location of certain files. 32 bit programs go in "C:\Program Files (x86)\", not in "C:\Program Files\". 32 bit drivers go in "C:\Windows\SysWoW64\", not in "C:\Windows\System32\". You can sometimes get around this with special installation procedures. For example:

No problem with ImgBurn, haven't used DVDFlick on any platform, so I can't comment on that one.

I had hoped to keep my old Nero 6x for certain specific tasks, but that's clearly a No Go on W7, whether 32-bit or 64. (Not interested in the post-7 versions of Nero, which seem to have taken bloatware to new heights.) I think I've run across a few other programs that balked at W7 -- the 64-bit especially -- but did not make note of which ones. I expect to encounter several more. That x86 section of Program Files has surprised me, however, in terms of many apps or utilities that it could accommodate. Haven't tried emulation yet, though I do have VMWare Player on hand, just in case.

Yea, i think my dad is using Nero 11 (with a key made from an internet key program!!!) He seems to like it, and his PC is Win 7 /64. I am gonna stick with ImgBurn and DVDFlick for now, and I will test it out and see what happens.

  10. 32bit applications work fine, but drivers require 64bit versions. Thats basically it for 99% of the software out there in my experiance.
