    hi i have a powermac g5 OSx v 10.5.8

    my idvd does not work

    im using the magic dvd option and adding appox 45 mins worth of mov files but it's coming up with a mesage that says that the file is too large for the dvd!!

    does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can get over this?

    is there a tmpg enc (which i'm used to) for macs for example?

    Change the project to a slightly lower quality which permits more time in a smaller amount of space.

    No, Tmpgenc is not available natively on Mac (though you could use Bootcamp/parallels/VM etc).

    My guess is that YOUR estimation of the length of those mov files is wrong. Are you truly basing it on running time as played in a media player? or are you estimating that based on some filesize? If the latter, that is where you are miscalculating.

    Code:
    Filesize = RunningTime * Bitrate
    That's the rule.

    You know the filesize you NEED to have: < 4.37GB
    Once you know that ACTUAL running time, you'll know what the average bitrate OUGHT to be. Set your encoding for that.

    If your DVD had no extras (subs, etc) and had LPCM audio (1.5Mbps), then the max combined streams of 10.08Mbps would leave a max video stream of 8.58Mbps, less than the possible max video bitrate of 9.8Mbps. IIRC, iDVD probably doesn't have the facility to encode to MP2 or AC3 (Dolby Digital), so then you WOULD be stuck with LPCM audio and stuck with 8.58Mbps as the max video bitrate. Assuming CBR encoding (most simplified), that means an allowable running time of ~1hr2min before you hit the max size for the disc, or you have to encode to a lesser bitrate.

    Maybe greater description of the options, warnings/errors in iDVD would help us help you.
