Hi guys i recently got this asus cm6870-us-3aa

but for the life of me cannot figure out how to play a blu ray movie.

i tried double clicking but it just brings up media player and tells me it can't play that so i'm not sure what i use.

I tried the media player classic but that didn't work either .

You need to look into programs such as Power DVD or Total Media Theatre.

  4. Click on them and find out. Tools in red are linked to the relevant tool page.

TMT, without a doubt, but PowerDVD works. I use Digital Theater in TME, pretty much identical with TMT (it was bundled with my HD-PVR). I have several install discs for PDVD (bundled with BD burners) and thought it was rather poor, so I uninstalled it. I bet lots of members here have multiple PDVD install discs. Maybe you have a friend who can give you one for nothing. TMT is the best, but pricey.

Or simply run a driver-level decrypter like AnyDVDHD or DVDFabPasskey in the background and use MPCHC or VLC to play the movie by selecting the proper playlist file in the BDMV folder. Although you have to identify the correct playlist file first with BDinfo, then drill down into the directories. Not as bad as it sounds with a bit of practice. The free DVDFabPasskey "Lite" can serve for simply playing discs.

    Good luck.

Most of the "bundled" HD software that comes with burner packages will install only if the burner is on the machine. But sometimes it works. If price is an issue, you can find competitive sellers at Amazon and eBay (the latter often sells brand-new, unused OEM issues or slightly older retail editions that install anywhere), to mention but a few. If you go to godawful joints like BestBuy, be prepared to sign a second mortgage.

backdrop001 - What is your operating system? Windows XP and below do not understand the version of UDF that BluRay uses and this can be a problem affecting playback. If you have XP or Windows 2000 then please install the UDFreader drivers we have here by clicking on the name in my post to find it and you need to install those drivers before you worry about the playback issue, whatever you decide to use.

Using VLC to play BluRay discs, as suggested, does not always work. If you want a commercial software player, Arcsoft's Total Media Theater is really the best. I do NOT recommend PowerDVD at all and in fact I encourage you to stay away from it.

My PowerDVD 10 works Ok for me in my XP setup, but I'll take your suggestion and try TMT. That UDFReader came with my bluray burner's OEM package (or maybe it was the Hauppauge HD PVR stuff I installed? ?), so maybe that's why I haven't had problems. <sigh> Progress. What a pain.

In addition to using the right player software your computer has to be Blu-ray capable or the protected commercial discs won't play. Just to confirm that this wont be a problem, can you provide up-to-date specs for your PC including the graphics adapter. When I damaged my mboard with the hdcp certified on-board graphics and switched to an older used replacement mboard I had to buy a new pcie video card to play br discs.

btw) Before I bought the video card, I could play home made AVCHD (m2ts) hd video discs using the UDF driver so that by itself is not an indicator of bd playback capability.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

5400 RPM drive? For a business workstation? At least it looks like a BitFenix case. This PC came with a BD drive but no matching software? 300W power? Considering the selling prices I found, I can't figure where the $1K cost shows in the specs. Hmm...

On quick read what you have should do the job without upgrade. Looks like all you need now is the software player as already suggested.

Media Player Classic HC can be made to play BD's albeit without the menu but the trouble is circumventing the protection system.

Commercial players have access to the keys to decrypt the discs.
