  1. I captured video from my miniDV camcorder using WinDV program that I found here on this forum. I'd like to upload video to YouTube, but my upload speed is only 50KB/s. So I'd need to convert it to something more compact. I'd like to get the best possible quality on YouTube, but I dunno how to do it. Are there guides out there, or can anyone tell me what to do?

  2. Convert it to an AVI with XviD video and MP3 audio or an MP4 with x264 video and AAC audio using any one of a number of programs. YouTube accepts both of those formats. As for the best possible quality, anything uploaded by you gets reencoded by them and severely degraded.

You might try AutoGK. I think it accepts DV AVI input. It'll output XviD and MP3, if that's OK with you.

YouTube has its own guides for this sort of thing:

I don't want to be rude but there are TONS of guides everywhere on how to do this.

I am glad you found us as you will get some of the best advice available.

    For starters read here:

    https://www.videohelp.com/convert

There are plenty of guides to just about anything you want.

Now I haven't done it myself but I believe youtube will even convert it for you.

But if you need to convert first before uploading consider using format factory or handbrake to do that. You would most likely want to use h264 inside an mp4 as that would be the most universally accepted format for youtube. IT might still reencode it if it isn't "exactly" the way it wants it to.

I'm sure there are lots of youtube presets available in just about any conversion program you use.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions. Just try to do a little reading first. Searching will find you a lot. You can ask about what you don't understand after you have searched.

Oh didn't know that. Too bad.

What about those digital cameras that have the youtube recording mode? Does it reencode those as well?

  6. It's been several years now since you could upload a video to their specs to avoid it being reencoded. I don't know anything about cameras but suspect they just capture in a format YouTube accepts.
