I downloaded the latest demo version of nero. I am downloading "shared" movies and converting them to VCD to play in my DVD player. This works with some movies but a lot of times NERO stops responding. This happens quite often.
    My question is this:
Before I purchase the NERO software, I am wondering if there is another program that would better than NERO to convert files to VCD for my computer? I have Window's XP.
I have searched for other programs and can not find any.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!!!

  2. Easy answer. TMPGEnc is what u need. Most people don't use Nero to convert their files to (S)VCD. TMPGEnc is the program most widely used for encoding to (s)vcd. You can download TMPGEnc at www.tmpgenc.net. After that just look to the left and goto the convert section, there are alot of tutorials for beginners on how to convert to
    (s)vcd.

    Hope this answered your question.

First of all, thanks so much for your response. The program that you are speaking of, I already have. I can not get it to work. I download off of KaZaA and I can not tell what kind of files I am getting. When I try to convert them to VCD using program that you refer to, it will only search for MPEG1 files. SO it will not convert any of the downloaded movies that I have. So, am I just not doing the right thing with this program? Will it actually convert any type of file?
    Thanks,
    Paige

  4. Your trying to convert an *.avi file that you downloaded to (s)vcd right?

What kind of error messages do you get when trying to open the file with TMPGEnc?

ok, when I first go into it asks for me to select a format. I am trying NTSC (I have also tried PAL). When I select the video file I get an error message stating:
    File"C:\Program Files\KaZaA\My Shared
Folder\We Were Soldiers.CAM(2of2).avi"can not open, or unsupported. (example of file trying to convert)

This happens on everyone one of the files. Nero will convert them, but my demo has run out and I dont want to buy it if I dont have to.

    Thanks for your help!! :D
