Is it possible to give Individual streams in M2TS files names (such as Directors Commentary etc.). I notice you can do it for MKV files (mkvmerge has an option to do it), but can you do it for M2TS files? All the M2TS re/de/muxers i've seen don't give you that option.

afaik m2ts does not have any dedicated fields for naming&co, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream

Theoretically, you could use a descriptor in the PMT table, but it would require application support, both for reading and writing it.

What is your need for the field descriptions?
If you are making a bluray you can call all the stuff whatever you like just like dvds - in the menu layouts that is. (of course I"m assuming this as all I've done is make avchds - no bluray burner)
If you want to play this back on a media player why not simply remux it to mkv and do what you want with it?
Or are you using a player like a ps3 that won't work with mkv? You could remux to mp4 and do that fancier stuff if that is the case.
Otherwise if this metadata is needed for some other reason I suggest you create a text file or spreadsheet file to keep a record of all your file data. THat way you have a record of what you did when authoring a disc if this is what you are looking to do.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
