  1. Hi. I think this question can fit in: Audio, Software Playing and Editing, but I'm really sorry if I posted it wrong.

Well. I'm with a lot of trouble using Virtualdub lately. I have both Virtualdub 1.6.19 (build 24586/release) and Virtualdub 1.9.1 (build 31536) plus Virtualdub Mod(I almost don't use this one). Since few days ago, I can't play AVI videos with MP3 audio source and I don't know why. I mean, It was working just fine before. I already searched on the internet and found nothing. My problem isn't with AC3(just saying because in a few forums people asked for help with MP3 and received AC3 replies, resulting in nothing). I already removed every codec from my PC and tried to do my best removing any registry that could be left behind, reinstalled everything, and it was useless. I also removed all versions in my PC of the Virtualdub and reinstalled again, useless.

My Virtualdub(both versions) just keep saying:

    Error initializing audio stream decompression:
No installed audio codec could be found to decompress the compressed source audio.

Check to make sure you have the required codec.

Here are some details about one of the AVI files I'm trying to open(it happens the same with ALL AVI files):

Software and setup used for my codecs: K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 9.2.0.0 using the Full Package Installation(original config).

The videos open just fine in Virtualdub, it just can't be played(I can see the images of the video if I slide the Virtualdub's forward/backward bar).

I can only think that can be because of this: I realized that I can't find the Audio Compression MPEG-Layer 3 in VirtualDub -> Audio -> (Enable Full Processing Mode) -> Compression... it's like it's gone and I can't reinstall it(or I just don't know how to do it). I always used MPEG-Layer 3 to compress my videos' audio.

    Any light?

    Thank you very much.

    Regards.

I guess the avi works fine with audio in windows media player?

You could try install the Lame ACM MP3. But it might just be an encoder...

What version of Widows do you run ?
Most versions of windows comes with a built in mp3 decoder, and starting with WinXP (maybe 98) you can use the built in mp3 encoder.

Sounds to me like you may have removed the Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 ACM codec... the built in encoder/decoder.

See if one of these can help:

    http://www.looprecorder.de/tut_l3codec.php
    http://blog.komeil.com/2008/06/enabling-fraunhofer-mp3-codec-vista.html

Lame ACM is just the encoder.

If all else fails a re-install of Windows is your only option.

This is why you shouldn't install codec packs... FFdshow has all the codecs you're likely to ever need.

  4. Hi guys. Thanks for replying me and I'm sorry for my huge delay.

@Baldrick , Yeah, its working just fine to all my players, except for Virtualdub. I never had that problem before =/

I think I've already tried a shot on Lame AC3 MP3 and didn't solved, but I'll check again.

@gregalan , Hi. I run Windows XP SP3. I'll check the links you has sent me.

I agree, I already thought about reinstalling everything(all the Windows), but I didn't do it so far because I have to do a lot of backups first, and that is bad, because I also need a lot of Virtualdub.

Thank you very much for your replies, I'll check that things you guys told me to do, then I'll edit this post.

    Regards.
