I'm in a bit of a rush and searching might help my situation, but wading through posts is exhausting..

    Ok,
I'm capturing video of some events from 2009 to 2011. I am experiencing blocky video, and chopped audio. I've used the capturing software inside Vegas, and I've also used WinDV. Both programs have given me similar results.

I've used a JVC MiniDV Cleaning Cassette, hoping that the issue was due to a dirty head. But no dice.

The reason I posted the picture is because I have a small ray of hope. The audio is inconsistantly bad. MEANING: I've recorded the same 30 seconds of video multiple times, and each time, the audio is chopped in different spots. SO, my fantastic brain is telling me that the audio is still there, intact, in some form.. It's just a matter of figuring out the issue, resolving it, and continuing on with my life. LoL.

I'm using a Sony Handycam as the deck (I know.. however in the past, I had used a more professional grade playback deck and got similar results).

I've switched from using a PCI firewire card to the on-board firewire slot. same.

As I said, I've used Vegas and WinDV as my capturing software. Same.

    Cleaned the tape head. Same.

The tapes play back on the camcorder themselves, and they are showing the same symptoms. So I'm hoping that maybe I just need to re-align the heads, or try cleaning the heads again. Something simple.

The footage was orginally shot using Canon GL-2's onto Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ Tapes.

I'm hoping maybe that there is some simple thing I'm doing wrong. I don't really have the funds available to me at this time to just go get something else to do it.

you can't align the heads. i'd suggest getting the cam that shot the video if at all possible. if not see if you can borrow a different cam to see if it helps.

try the cleaning tape again. about the only other thing that could be wrong with the audio is if it was recorded at 32khtz and the cam can't tell/decode it properly.
