    Hello forum members.

I was wondering if any one knew how to burn a blu ray onto a DVD.

Is there a (free I hope) software to do this? Would the video quality be significantly reduced or just a little? I suppose it would require many DVD disks - this is OK.

Software I have - ImgBurn, Nero 9, DVD Shrink, Alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD

    Have a fine day

    Thank you

    I guess you want a standard dvd-video?

Yes, it will be significantly reduced. From 1920x1080 pixels to 720x480/576 pixels. VSO has a Blu-ray Converter Ultimate that can do Blu-ray to DVD. It's not free though.

Explain in more detail what your goal is. Is it:
    1) To convert a BluRay disc to one DVD disc? Yes, this can be done but the process involves ripping first followed by conversion and it will only work for the main movie. BDRebuilder is free and can do the conversion for you, but it can be challenging to get it working if you don't have a lot of experience.
    2) If your goal is to split a BluRay into how ever many DVD discs it takes to contain the whole film and play it on a DVD player, I don't think there is anything that will let you do that. You will have to convert to DVD format so you are back to the solution in #1 above.

BluRay format won't play on a DVD player at all - period. DVD players play DVD format. You have to convert. Generally speaking you shouldn't expect such conversions to be better than what professional studios can produce but we do have a small number of people here who do things like in #1. I think it's pointless, but they still do it.

It depends how you define "quality". If you define it solely based on resolution then yes, it's going to be significantly worse. In all other respects, it could end up almost identical to the original.

In reply to jman98, I can fully understand a person wanting to do this if they want to play the disc in a room with no Blu-ray player. In the case of something as diabolically awful as, say, the first release of Avatar on R2 DVD, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if pretty much anyone with a little knowledge and a bunch of freeware could turn out a far better job than the blind one-armed monkey flailing randomly at the controls made of that one. It truly is hideous!

  5. Agree with Slipster, there have been some badly produced dvd movies.

ConvertXtodvd should make a dvd from blu-ray.
I am wondering however if the OP is referring to AVCHD?
If that is the case, use BD Rebuilder or possibly BDtoAVCHD.

I don't think OP wants copy bd content on to multple dvds, and also not possible. If you want you need to cut and copy all video files. I don't think it is good by any means.

Blurray converter ultimate can convert bd movie to dvd movie. If you need free, copy all required video files and use a program like avstodvd or dvdflick, or even nero as you have it.

If you are trying to produce standard definition dvd-video from a blu ray source, I recommend using BD Rebuilder for this. It is free to download and use.
I wrote a couple of guides for the program that might help you. There is a basic setup guide, and a guide for converting to other formats, including dvd-video.
