VideoPad Editor won't capture from Panasonic camcorder

Under Windows XP using a firewire connection won't capture from Panasonic PV-DV201D camcorder - something about can't open file, direct X problem. Can capture using Windows Movie Maker without problems. I wonder if, and how, I'm suppose to get a later version of direct X. Thanks.

Capture/record with windv and then edit the dv-avi with whatever tool you want.

Thanks for your response to my question. I can capture using another program, Windows Movie Maker for example, but not using VideoPad. Error message said "cannot open/read ...dv file". After your suggestion, I did download windv but it won't capture either. Thanks again.
