Hello
I'd like to use my Sony camcorder outside with the integrated microphone but it's no good when it's even just a bit windy.
Since everyone has the same issue with those consumer-grade camcorders, I was wondering if someone came up with a solution. I was thinking of attaching a piece of fabric with velcro, but I'm suspicious about the tiny circle that's visible and could be some sensor (autofocus? light?):
Thank you.

Yes it does, although I never used it. I guess it's meant to be used with the integrated projector.
So I guess I could try sticking some home-made wind shield and give it a shot.
Thank you. -

I would double check your manual for the camcorder. Quite often they have a diagram with info on what the various parts are. it might say what that item is.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Will do, thanks.
So there's no wind shield available for integrated microphones? -
Sure thing.

Also have you tried googling "microphone shield" or something similar to see if there are other options? Or maybe somebody has posted a do it yourself solution that would work for you.
Good luck - I'm sure you have probably looked yourself just thought I'd remind you if you haven't.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Yes, but dead kittens are meant for regular microphones.
I'll look further and experiment. Thank you. -
My expectations were surpassed with a 'Windcutter' on my panny camcorder

Thanks! I'll double-check that it works with my Sony camcorder.

An old wrist guard I had lying around does the job nicely and the price was right...........
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Thanks for the idea, but the microphone on my Sony camcorder is located right underneath the lens.
But I got a reply from www.thewindcutter.com:
We do make a Stick-On WindCutter to fit the Sony HDR-PJ30. The price is $23.95. Here's the link. We don't have a retailer in Europe, but we ship there. Shipping is free worldwide on all Stick-On orders.
