  1. I have a disk with 3 hours of content.

There is a site that specializes in 500mb video files of -- anything-- it seems. It is called 500mb.com

How can I get the 3 hours converted to this ultra small size for avi or mkv that is useable if not totally identical in quality?

Does DVDFab in one of their Ipod options or something similar make these small files?

lol. maybe if you made the size 64x48 no one could notice how crappy the video was. filesize = bitrate x time. for any size, always. you have the filesize and time, you work out the bitrate. (a hint, it's not acceptable quality for any size video in any format)

aedipuss is right, you can't make good quality 500Mb files. Though on a screen as small as an ipod you may not notice the difference.

For me the funny part is setting up a site advertising 500Mb anything. Of course you can do that. It's trivial.

Any encoder (btw the dvdfab decrypter is good but the encoder is crap) with but rate / file size settings can do that. As mentioned in the last post, just set the bit rate too low for viewing on any reasonably sized screen.

I've seen actually reasonable quality 700Mb video but I usually have to use dithering in SMplayer to watch it.

  4. I'm glad I gave everybody a good laugh. But a while back there was a full widescreen movie (Nicole Kidman somethingorother in Australia) that also has this tiny file size(for the length of the film.) The content looked fine. I watched it on my 19 monitor which, along with an old Sony Trintron 27 inch is all I use.

I use DVDFab to make avi's because it's simplicity I understand. Which is the better encoder?

Word: I can't follow AnyDVD or what it does at all. (Buried in the task bar so it can work in the background.) No, DVDFab though it may have encoder problems for the experts is adequate until I find one program that can do what it does. What my question was about was using a non standard mobile or ipod format just from a size standpoint (perhaps file compression that is unoticeable unless on a wall system.)
