I am pretty new the field of video editing. Recently, a video of me speaking has been recorded, and there is a powerpoint that goes along with this video. How can I add slides at various intervals at full screen so the viewer can see the powerpoint I am working off of, without interrupting the flow of the audio, and transitioning back and forth between me speaking the the powerpoint slides. What program is best able to do this, and where can I learn how to do it properly

Any decent pro, prosumer or even hobbyist NLE (non-linear editor) will be able to do this. It can either be done as single-track A/B insert edit or using 2 tracks you drop in and overlay the ppt slides (pix) on top of the video background. Depends mainly on which way you're familiar/comfortable working.
Most nle apps work very similarly, so learning about EDITING in general should transfer from 1 app to another. Note that there really are NOT any totally free, bug-free, easy & feature-packed nle apps. You could probably get by with WMM, but you might be fightinng an uphill battle at times. Offhand, I'd recommend Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, as it is fairly easy to get started with and will grow with you. The pdf manual that comes with it might also be enough to get you going for the project you have in mind.

Yeah, I tried using Windows Movie Maker, and it wouldn't let me do anything except split the movie in pieces and insert the slides, which wasn't working the way it was supposed to. The tools in Windows Movie Maker are extremely limited.

EDIT: Nevermind the question. I just saw the answer about the NLE. Thanks.
