    I noticed a user a few post below me has a similar question but he has a mac. I forgot there were still some files that I needed to safe and formatted the drive What is the best program to recover data? I tried a few but they weren't very helpful so I need some suggestions.

    Unfortunately, your post is also not "very helpful". What programs did you try and what was the result?
    PC Inspector File Recovery has a mode for drives that were quick formatted. If you did a long format,
    the data is gone.

    In windows the only difference between a quick format and a full format of a hard drive is the scan (read only) the program performs looking for bad blocks (to mark bad so they don't get used by the O/S). So there's no difference in terms of file recoverability. Floppies are different. A full format of a floppy overwrites the entire disc.

    That's good to know. I must have been thinking of something else (low-level format?) where the sectors
    were re-written - I thought with binary zeroes. Or was that something that applied to pre-IDE drives?
