On my BDPS3100 player, when watching a regular dvd I can hit Stop during the movie (returning to the Home Menu) then hit enter (or play) and resume where I left off. I could also turn the player off after Stop then when I turn it back on it returns to where I left off.

Alas, with any Blu-ray disc once I hit Stop and return to the Home Menu any attempt to restart takes me back to the beginning of the disk...it doesn't restart where I left off. I've used multiple Blu-ray discs (all store bought...not rentals) with the same result. Very frustrating.

The resume function on a DVD player is part of the player itself.
The resume function on a BluRay has to be encoded to the disk by the disk producer, not the player. If the BD producer hasn't put a resume function on the disk, you won't get resume play.

Just FYI, Disney is one of the few manufacturers I can remember that usually (but not always) encodes their BD discs to resume where they were left off. Criterion does this too.

One trick you can do is if possible to stop your disc at 10 minute increments, like say at 50:00. If you stop at an easy to remember place then even without the feature you can likely easily get back to where you were the next time you play the disc. If you come back with "But I can't remember even that" then I have no other suggestions.
