Thats from the microsoft xbox website. I use MakeMKV as it is easy, simple, and not time consuming. Now I have an HTPC setup in my home theatre and an XBOX in the man cave that I want to be able to stream to, and since WMV is the only supported way to play 1080p w/ 5.1 I want to learn how to do this with burned in subtitles. I mainly want the subtitles for movies where they speak another language during certain parts.WMV (VC-1) support
The Xbox 360 console supports the following for WMV:
File extensions: .wmv
Containers: ASF
Video profiles: WMV7 (WMV1), WMV8 (WMV2), WMV9 (WMV3), VC-1 (WVC1 or WMVA) in simple, main and advanced up to level 3
Video bit rate: 15 Mbps with resolutions of 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps
Audio profiles: WMA7/8, WMA9 Pro (stereo and 5.1), WMA Lossless
Audio max bit rate: No restrictions
I am looking at DVDFab Blu Ray Ripper right now, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm really hoping Baldrick gets in on this because I love your guides. I just don't want the hassle of using multiple programs.

Have you tried stream the mkv directly to your xbox with something like Ps3 media server?
But I think HDConvertToX can dvd to wmv directly with burned in subtitles. -
Yes, but you won't like it. I'm going to say it anyway because in about 10% of people they read this and have an epiphany and get it that there are better ways to do things. The other 90% are lost causes.
The Xbox has LONG LONG LONG been surpassed as a media player. You have to go back 4+ years to find a time when there was nothing better. If you are like most people here and you are unbelievably cheap, then continue to paint yourself into a corner and throw away your spare time converting EVERYTHING you have so your piece of #$%^ Xbox will play it. But if you're among the 10% who actually care about their spare time and want to find a better way, just buy a media player from Western Digital. It will support H.264, WMV, MPEG-2, DTS, AAC, AC3 and various other codecs. Rip. Use MakeMKV or Handbrake or whatever you like (or in the case of DVDs, just rip to ISOs) and get on with your life instead of converting everything to make this old technology still useful to you. Most of the hardcore Xbox streamers from 3-4 years ago have now given up on the platform with the realization that it's just not worth the time and effort to use it. -
I'm that 11%, I'm debating what I want to and I am not that cheap. I have the Xbox now, realize it is older, and don't want to move it.
File Formats Supported

Photo - JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG
Audio - MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS
Playlist - PLS, M3U, WPL
Subtitle - SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB, SMI
Note:
MPEG2 MP@HL up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
MPEG4.2 ASP@L5 up to 1280x720p30 resolution and no support for global motion compensation.
WMV9/VC-1 MP@HL up to 1280x720p60 or 1920x1080p24 resolution. VC-1 AP@L3 up to 1920x1080i30, 1920x1080p24 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
H.264 BP@L3 up to 720x480p30 or 720x576p25 resolution.
H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution.
An audio receiver is required for multi-channel surround sound digital output.
Compressed RGB JPEG formats only and progressive JPEG up to 2048x2048.
Single layer TIFF files only.
Uncompressed BMP only.
For details, please refer to the user manual.
So it looks like MakeMKV and handbrake for MP4 h.264 and AC3 for 1080p and 5.1. I'm fine with that.
