Hi all,
So far I've had the pleasure of listening to the soundtracks to The Terminator 1, Stephen King's "It", Clue and A Nightmare on Elm Street 1.
Now, of all these mentioned, the Elm Street score is the only unaltered one. Can someone please explain why the soundtracks to the others films are altered in one way or another? The music is either shifted up/down in pitch somewhat, the music may be faster/slower than in the film, etc. Why does this occur?
Thanks.

Maybe altered in the film for editorial reasons (e.g. to fit clip length). Sometimes you edit video to fit the sound, sometimes the other way around. In the PAL world, all 24fps film must be sped up to 25fps requiring speed/pitch correction to the audio track.

I'd guess the original soundtrack is the one on the soundtrack album, and it was adjusted to fit the movie during the edit. Where it's exactly the same they probably didn't keep the original soundtrack and copied it back from the edited version.
But you'd have to read up on the production history of each movie to know for sure. -
Hm. Here's something interesting that seems to validate what you described. I downloaded a PAL rip of "It" and the soundtrack as well... a long time ago. I noticed the difference in pitch then, when playing around...
Now that I own the NTSC version, I just compared the soundtrack (yes, I had to find it again) and there's no difference in pitch. All that's different (but not by much) are where some cuts take place.
Thanks for the info... I was completely prepared for the two tracks to be of a different pitch and was pleasantly surprised to find that they're the same now -
Some actors voices(ones we know SO very well) sound really odd going between formats(PAL - NTSC).

(now if only I could find a lossless version to purchase somewhere) < any hints?

There's also the inverse to that. When I started watching clips of Start Trek on YouTube, it sounded like the crew had chest infections and were sedated
The clips must have been the original NTSC versions at the right speed.
It's only ~4%, but if you've grown up with the show and watched hundreds of hours of it...
A slight slowdown used to great effect here:

Only if you live in england.

Or Scotland... or Ireland, Wales, France, Germany, Poland, Norway......
Anywhere in the world that's 50i - PAL/SECAM countries (except PAL-M):
