    Avidemux can burn in the subs and output as dvd mpg for iDVD. But I don't know how well it works in mac.

    Well, you could just buy a media player like one of the Western Digital models and NOT convert ANYTHING. Just put the files on some type of USB device like a flash drive, plug it in, and get on with your life. In my opinion it'll be some of the best money you ever spend to not have to convert files to watch them on your TV.

    Unfortunately you have learned that everything video related is harder on a Mac. Windows is where the tools are. I don't know why your Windows keeps crashing but I've been using VMware Fusion without any issue for years on an iMac. I've got a Windows XP VM on it and I can use it with any Windows video programs I want and it works fine.
