Region code for LG HX-806PE

My LG HX-806PE home theater actually has a setting in its menu for the region code. It asks me to enter 4 numbers to set a new code. It doesn't display the Region number currently set (nor the 4-digit code used at the moment), it just displays the letters HU. I suppose they mean Hungary, even though I'm in Bulgaria but it's the same region - 2. Anyway, I tried typing in 4 zeroes (0000), but that didn't change anything. So, anybody got an idea what 4-digit code I need to make it Region-free?

The region setting you talk about is not the region setting for DVD region. It is used to set Parental Control (block certain content) in accordance to settings for your region.

You can however try this:

1. Switch on the device
2. Open the DVD tray
3. Press the (pause/step) button on remote once
4. Press the "0" zero button 2 to 3 times, till a region menu appears. (Small block in the middle of the screen)
5. Choose "0" zero for region free.
6. All done. Insert any region DVD and enjoy.

It worked for another LG model with amost the same model number, the LG HT806TGW. Even though this is a DVD home Theater system and your system is blu-ray, it doesn't hurt trying. If it does work, it will only be the DVD part that is region free, not the blu-ray part. Report back if it works or not.

If you want to know how to reset the password you mentioned in your first post, then look in the manual under 'Lock menu' in Setup.

LG may have modified the hardware and/or the firmware on Toshist's model and that's why the hack no longer works. It happens all the time. Specialty players of all kinds such as DVD/VCR combos, TV/DVD combos, portables and home theater players have always been harder to unlock than normal standalone players.

And I'd recently updated the firmware to the latest version (from October 2011) so I thought downgrading it and trying the trick again might work. I downgraded it to the oldest available (February 2011) but still couldn't hack the Region.
