    I deleted a short mp4 video, about a minute.
Restored it just after the delete so it was not walked on.

Now windows media player won't play it or any other player.

I did some test, deleted another mp4 video and restored and it won't play either. same file size and name.

Been on the net for hours and seems no one know how to make the mp4 work after restore.

I can delete a doc,jpg or any other file and comes back and works.

Next is to work with my hex editor. Any body here know anything to help...? Thanks.

  2. I don't know whether this is of any help...
    http://www.mp4recovery.com/repair-corrupted-mp4-file.php

Try opening the file with MediaInfo. Are there any details?

Or maybe attach a corrupted file for someone to try fix it for you.

  4. Undelete programs often don't work well if a file is fragmented. You're probably out of luck.

Do you have FFDshow installed to see if the file will decode (play) in media player classic or media player home cinema? If it does maybe you could demux and remux.

But if it does not work with media player classic then it may be time to re-encode the source where you got it from. If it is an ORIGINAL SOURCE or your master copy, then unfortunately you may be out of luck.

That may be true, but when I do a test by, make file, delete file, restore file and it don't play but all other file formats work fine, something going on with mp4.

  7. Players don't like it when the end of MP4 files are missing or corrupt.

I think that is probably the problem, the undelete mp4 is missing the eof from the undelete program, now how to figure out how to rewrite the eof. Have to compare 2 files one good and one undeleted of the same file size. Going to cut 2 mp4 down to 10 second clips, exact same size and delete and restore one and then compare the 2 with hex editor and see what is different. Will post back.
