I am in the process of reading your guides and looking through your forums. Thank you all!
Any help with sources and instructions for a reasonable setup would be really appreciated. I need to buy hardware and do a competent job preserving some VHS recordings.
My lady wife passed away in August and I have some recordings of hers on VHS that I have to preserve. I don't really know how many yet but I want to make them available to her family and have them on my computer. It is likely that the most important recordings will be ones she took herself - not commercial movies etc....

if your current vcr isn't in that list :
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/286055-VCR-buying-guide-(S-VHS-D-VHS-Professional)
and if it's just a few tapes .. you may have to search for a professional service to do it for you
else it may cost you more bucks that you think $$$$ and quite a learning curve
it isn't that easy to do .. if you have original copies and still have the original equipment may help a little
for simplicity go with a dvd recorder : http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-recorders.htm
welcome to the forums .. it's a great place to start
