The new format for videos on You tube has an extension of .webM and Avidemux reports a codec of VP8. It is stated as a MKV Matroska file. I have, before, converted FLV and MP4 files downloaded from You Tube to MPG for burning to DVD. My question is this:

Is there a program (free or other wise) that will let me convert this new format to MPG?

I have tried the latest version of Avidemux, but the audio is out of sync and there are some color problems.
DVDFlick does not recognize the file format.

  2. Well, I believe that the sticky thread at the top could be of some use. There are a number of converters there. Also, what are you using to download the files? Keepvid.com will give you a choice of several files of varying resolutions, in the form of FLV's, MP4's, and WebM's. That way, you can stick to Avidemux if you wish, although I have found that the WebM's will have better sounding audio (since WebM uses a newer, butter audio format).

I use Firefox's Video Downloader. the vids download Ok and play on MPCHC just fine. But The version of Avidemux that I have 2.5.5 has problems converting this format to MPG or AVI. It seems that it is only the 480 resolution size videos. All other resolutions and other types (FLV, MP4) work ok.

The problem is that some videos are only in the .webM format.

You can try avidemux nightly beta, http://avidemux.org/nightly/win32/

Or a new build of ffmpeg or a frontend for it like xmedia recode and see how they handle webm with vp8.
