  1. I checked the current HQ thread but couldn't find it. What format(s) do I need to upload to youtube so that my viewers can see my videos in HQ. I just uploaded a divx file and it'd the same crap quality. Thanks!

It can be anything, as long as the resolution is above 480x360. I recommend x.264 with (HE-)AAC audio . By the way, you must wait a day, maybe 2-3 days before the high resolution version is availible. Then you can put &fmt=18 and/or &fmt=6 behind the link to see the HQ.

  3. I'm confused. Does the link (higher quality available) at the bottom of the screen show up or do you have to add &fmt=18?

Well currently it shows up very rarely, and most of the time you still have to put &fmt=18 in your adressbar.

  5. Thanks. I clicked on quite a few today that had it - guess I got lucky.

  6. I added &fmt=18 to the video I uploaded this morning and it is available in HQ. Is there any way that my video will show up automatically in HQ without a user having to add it?

    Thanks!

Not yet. Youtube is still testing this all . That's why you don't see the click for the HQ version on much videos, and it never shows up yet in the Netherlands. I think that this will happen in the comming weeks.

well i was going to say ' youtube and high quality' is a contradiction of terms

its nice to find out, that HQ can be available from youtube, but I thought that was only for commercial users releasing movie trailers

The topic was moved to a more appropriate place, under the *new* Video Streaming forum

High quality is prob an understatement, until youtuber's become better video prepair'ers and
encod'ers. I think its still too early to tell HQ from LQ. I've seen various sorts but in my honest
opinion they don't seem to look all that HQ (other than the slightly higher resolution) as there are
still too many pixelations and other artifacts. Plus, the nonsense with the &frmt=8/6 can be
    misleading or confusing at times.

And, as you may/may not know, there are two flash (I really should say, media) windowed players.
When your source is (supposevely) a definate HQ source, then the windowed player is suppose
to be the *newer* version. And when your source is youtube-encoded and depending on your
sources specs (how you upladed in terms of resolution etc) would trigger YT to either encode
only to HQ or LQ and HQ versions with the additional optional link for the HQ video posted just
under the windowed player. Perhaps its only when the video was determined to only be encoded
and served as HQ that there is only one version and the *newer* windowed player on your screen,
though there must be a way to know what governs this or how to setup a video for this type
of output outcome. I don't at this time.

The problem with all this nonsense about YT is that all this infomationa is not organized and in a
readly available place. I mean.. everyone keeps adding new things at that give time in that given
place/post and that makes it difficult to find what is current/latest/best setup, etc.. yada yada.

Lets try and be organized in this matter. I would like to suggest that all who contribute there findings
for YT, that all this information be posted in a place where it can be easily found, usually at the top
    of the originators forum thread.
