I am a video novice and was asked to create a YouTube video of some football highlights. I'm posting to this thread because I think I need some help with the video conversation. I say that because I ended up with a choppy video that looks okay, but it's not great. I started with a DVD that contained video of 3 football games. Here are the steps I took to get it into YouTube:
    • On my PC, I used Handbrake to convert the DVD to M4V
    • Imported the M4V into video editing software (CyberLink Power Director)
    • Edited the video to only the best highlights
    • Produced the video to export as MPG
    • Uploaded to YouTube
    Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpXJ_myoNOw

Please let me know if you need additional details...I wasn't sure what else to include. My goal is to make the YouTube video look as nice as possible. Thanks for your comments and recommendations.

    Motion is choppy.

I would have extracted the DVD 480i MPeg2 and edited that. When edit was complete, I'd deinterlace/encode to mp4 30fps at a high bit rate (limited by Youtube file size limits). Youtube will then recode to their chosen bitrate.

Thanks, I will give that a shot. Going to download free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter and use that to extract the DVD to 480i Mpeg2 - hopefully PowerDirector has the option to deinterlace and encode to mp4 30fps.

If it doesn't, export DVD Mpeg2 or DV and re-encode externally
(e.g. Handbrake with slow deinterlace + h.264 in mp4 wrapper)
