Can someone tell me when is hard drive speed critical? Capture or Encoding? Should I go for a 60Gb 5400 RPM drive or a 40Gb 7200 RPM drive. My intention is to capture AVI maybe using Huffyuv.
Thanks in advance.

hard drive speed is more important for capture, cpu speed is more important for converting. All though huffy is a great codec for capture you might prefer a 60gig 7200 if you want to capture anything big... fork out the extra 20-40$ it's worth it.

Resnullius is correct for I was capturing video with a 5400 drive and when I played it back it was choppy. A new 7200 solved my problems.

I bought a 7200rpm HDD and compared to 5400rpm that came with my computer like night and day.I don't know why anybody would want a 5400
if given a choice.
