    Hi,

A friend has recently bought a Sony FWD-42PV1.
    http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?pn=mp-fwd42pv1&referer=FroogleA1#.TnerUuzh6So

The unit only has the following inputs, DVI, VGA(Damaged), SVideo and an Aerial IN.

He is wanting to use it for his PS3 and for his Virgin. I think I am right in saying that he will not be able to get a HD Resolution with this method (Not sure if the TV supports 1080p) but that's fine as SD will do.

I've had a look around on Google but not found much info that applies to the above.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  2. DVI will handle HD. He can use an HDMI to DVI cable. Audio will have to go elsewhere.

The resolution of the Sony FWD-42PV1 is listed as 852x480. This means it can display 16:9 material without letterboxing, but not at an HD resolutions. Its description says the DVI-D input is HDCP compliant, so it should be OK with the PS3, using an HDMI to DVI-D cable, assuming the PS3 supports the monitor's resolution.

I saw a 2300 pound widescreen plasma and assumed it was HD. I should have looked at the details. The vertical resolution is even less than a normal standard defintion PAL signal! Throw it away and get a HDTV.
