Hi folks--I'm new to hd video, so please bear with me. I got the Panasonic sdt 750 to use in 2-d, and early on noticed some flicker in the image. In describing this to Panasonic tech support, they felt the unit was defective, and to send it in for repair. I returned it to Amazon and got a replacement, which exhibited the same issue. Tech support again told me to send it in. I then returned that unit to Amazon and ordered the TM 900, thinking this would solve the problem. Wrong--same thing. I have finally figured out that this flicker occurs only when the zoom is engaged, with a stable image otherwise--even when panning. I've tried various combinations of shutter and aperture settings with no improvement. To date, I've only played this back through the hdmi from the camera to my tv. Am I to believe that this is to be expected with any camcorder I get? I have used a Panasonic dv recorder for years with no such problem. My video is all outside in natural light, with scenics having long slow zooms, which look dreadful with this flickering. Help! Thanks you.
Chuck

Thanks for the reply. One of the problems here is that at my ripe old age, the electronics era has passed me by. It has taken me an inordinate amount of time just to figure out how to get my video from the sdt 750 to the pc, and I don't think I'm ready to upload any to the web just yet. More than anything else, I was hoping to hear someone say that this flicker is/is not normal for this level of camcorder. Thanks again.

Hard to say unless you describe it more accurately. "flicker" might mean something different to you or someone else
"Flicker" usually refers to change in luminance ; so frames get brighter and darker despite no change in exposure or lighting setup . Or it can refer to deinterlacing artifacts. Is either what you are describing ? -

Maybe a deinterlacing issue. Or a low progressive frame rate. Something like the video in this post?:
