I want to buy at least 10.5, but which system is best, and what's the best place to buy it from and for the best price? I've done a little searching, but I thought it'd be best to first ask from people who really know where to look on the world wide web.

If this is for a G4, like your specs say, then 10.5.8 is the last version supported.

Yes, it is for G4. Thanks for the info. Do you know where the best place to buy it might be?

local Mac User Group, Amazon, eBay, Apple (phone 800-692-7753), etc.
There should be enough users that would sell their previous OS at a decent price. Make sure to get a "retail disc", not a machine specific OEM disc.
Note that 10.5 originally retailed for much more ($129) than 10.6 ($29) or 10.7 ($30).

I always like http://www.megamacs.com for things like this.

You can still buy 10.5 from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FK88JK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=thdifa-20&link...SIN=B000FK88JK
Cheaper than Megamacs for a used copy that includes original box.

Lordsmurf: According to Case, ordering straight from Apple is still cheaper than Amazon, since Amazon's cheapest is more expensive than the $129 Apple offers. Thanks though.

16mmJunkie: Goodwill Computer stores? Is that the same as this Goodwill? If so, how do I know the difference, or do I just have to call each store and ask?

    Yes, same Goodwill.
They have all sorts of stuff in their stores now, not just clothes.
