I've toyed with the idea of getting 5.1 headphones every now and then.

Are they really any different than stereo headphones for watching movies?

Does the sound separation make the sound spacey or echoey compared to regular stereo?

I use regular stereo headphones connect to my 5.1 amp when I watch movies with headphones. Watching dvds or bluray I get normal stereo out of them even if the blue 5.1 light is on on my Sony amp (pre hdmi model).

I've thought about em but only if they were 50.00-ish in price. I wouldn't really need wireless but it would be a bonus. I'm sure wireless wouldn't be had for under a hundred. I'm not sure 5.1 headphones can be had for under a hundred at all.

Does anybody have experience with 5.1 headphones?

Do they deliver?

I know they have the gaming headsets for the 360 and ps3. Tritton I think is the main name in that arena. But those I think start at a 120 or so for the surround models and way more for wireless.

Are 5.1 headphones just a gimmick? Is it more of a virtual sound system?

I guess I'm wondering how over-the-ear studio muff style headphones can truly isolate sound more than just left and right. My thinking is separating sound beyond that in the tiny headphone arena would make it dilluted and not as impactful as regular stereo headsets.

I guess I'm not really serious about buying any right away but I've been curious about them and wondered about real world users.
