I am a newbie in the DVD world and just got my first player, a Pioneer DV-533 (similar to DV-440, but with an NTSC/PAL converter). My question is about the letterbox/pan&scan capability of this player. I have a regular 4:3 TV, and I am trying to watch some widescreen movies in the pan&scan mode, but the player still displays them exactly the same as in the letterbox mode. There is a note in the manual stating that whether the DVD can be displayed in the pan&scan mode depends on the DVD itself. Does this mean that the player does not do any conversion and I just have to have a pan&scan recorded disc? What's the purpose of this menu option then? Thanks in advance for the info.
