  1. I'm relatively new to this, and I 'd really apprecaite your help.

Recently converted ISO/CUE files to VCD using CDRWin but, although the movie plays well on computer, on my DVD player about half way through it becomes extremely pixelated.

Can I convert ISo/CUE file to AVI & then convert AVI to SVCD?

Wehn converting AVI to VCD or SVCD what are the best settings to avoid these picture problems? (I'm using TMPGEnc).

    Thanks,

  2. First thing to check is to see if your DVD player can play VCDs or SVCDs.
I think 90% of DVD players can play VCDs and about 70% can play SVCDs.

Check out the DVD player compatibility list on this web site:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php

Second thing to check is to see if your DVD player can play CDRs and
CDRWs. (Check the same list for that)

Because different manufacturers make CDRs using different dyes, some DVD players have trouble reading them. I think the ideal dye that all DVD players can read is a silver dye. CDRs are sometimes blue, sometimes green...

Another little tidbit of info....if your DVD player has trouble playing your CDR, trying burning the movie to a CDRW. I have seen that work before.

After you've checked all this out, then you should start wondering if it's a problem with the way you burned or converted the movie.

    Hope this helps,

  3. Thanks Urbs,

I've checked the list and I'm using a BUSH 2004. All comments are good for VCD / SVCD with blue/silver expensive/cheap discs?

The strange thing is that 20mins of movie is fine, but then picture becomes largely pixelated/blocky (blocks approx. 10-20mm) and sound goes also?

You suggested the buring process. The file I has was an ISO with CUE sheet. I used CDRWin but didn't get any options about burn quality.
Is there another way with the ISO?

In general though, if I burn an AVI file with TMPGEnc what burn settings do you recommend?

    Thanks again...........

  4. I think you're confusing the different formats here:

    - AVI, MPEG1 (.mpg) and MPEG2 (.mpg) are video file formats. You play these on your computer.

    - VCD and SVCD are videocd formats which have on them a specially encoded MPEG1 (for VCD) or an MPEG2 (for SVCD) file. You play these on your DVD player.

    - ISO and BIN/CUE files are CD image formats. It's basically everything from one whole CD packed into 1 file. You select these files with your favorite burning software and it burns that CD for you.

Your ISO or BIN/CUE files contain a CD image of a VCD or SVCD. So you shouldn't need to do any converting. Try the movie in a friends DVD player and see if you get the same problem.

  5. Learning slowly,

Burned CD again only using x2 speed (previoulsy was x12) and
quality looks much better - no sign of pixelation.

    Cheers
