  1. I screen recorded a video, and it's fine, other than the fact that the dark parts look really bad/posterized. Here are some photos: http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af162/cg2916/Posterize/

Any ways that are free that I can fix this?

  2. how are you recording? what compression?

these artifacts don't look like typical posterization , banding or macroblocking compression issues - they look more like intended textures as part of the game

for those other issues, normally you would record at higher bitrates, add debloking filters and add grain or dither

  3. I set my compression and quality levels to where I would get the best quality. Also, how could I fix it?

    That doesn't provide much information.

What game is it and how are you recording it ? What software

For example, if you used a lossless capture, you get identical quality to what you see on the screen

Also, how could I fix it?
Fix what? what is it supposed to look like ? What do you see when you play the game?

On way to fix it (if it was possible) is to record with better quality .

Maybe you can reprogram the game. I think these are intented textures

I've uploaded one of your screenshots to this site. Can you point out the problem area you are looking at?

Minecraft, BB Flashback. It's supposed to look like smoother colors. The whole video frame is the problem, but only in the dark parts of the game.

Do you mean those green "splotches" in those brown cubes aren't supposed to be there?

How does it look when you play the game? Do you see "smoother colors" when you actually play ?

Maybe there are some higher quality settings you could use, or better software to capture

Exactly! I see better colors when I play.

Then use better capture software, something like camtasia , camstudio or fraps . Use a lossless capture setting. Lossless will capture exactly what you see

What do you mean by better? That's very vague. More saturated? Better contrast? Smoother transitions from color to color? We're not there to see what you see, and "better" in one person's eyes is not necessarily the same thing as "better" in another person's eyes, so it's not obvious what you mean.

Are you using any compression when you capture? If so, what codec? What are you using to view and/or convert the resulting video? When does the color get worse?
