Using TMPGEnc and VCDEasy...
I encoded and burned my movie file to CD-RW first and it worked fine on my RCA Vcd/Dvd player - however, when I later burned the same files to a CD-R - my Dvd player would no longer read the disc. The CD-R that I burned does, however, work just fine on my computer's VCD player software.
What can I do to enable my RCA Dvd player to read the disc? Will burning with different software help? I really hope this issue can be resolved without me having to burn only to CD-RW discs from now on...

I have seen this happening with Sony DVD's (which is what I have) and the advice I got was to use the CD-RW only. I know this is probably not the kind of answer you were after.
You can also try different CD-R's to see if you find one that works and stick to it. I only tried a couple but I found it easier to stick with CD-RW...
Some people say to try some high quality CD-R's. You might want to try that too.

Look at the DVD compatibility list on the left of this page. You'll see a number of the RCA models list CD-RW only. See if yours is on the list. If it is, try selling to someone who only wants to watch garden variety DVDs.
