This is just something that bugs me and I would like to know why some manufacturers discs take forever to load (HBO especially) and when you stop playing the disc and want to restart it you have to go through all the loading and previews etc etc to get back to the point where you stopped? I’ve looked around for an explanation and apparently I’m not smart enough to have asked Google the right questions since I haven’t found an answer.

Not all discs are like this I have some newer Fox discs that load quickly and after stopping and restarting ask if you’d like to resume from last point played or start over. I have a concert (2010 Nobel Prize Concert – if you like classical music this is well worth the price) disc that doesn’t even ask it just starts at the point I stopped at; it also loads as fast as a DVD.

What possible reason could manufacturers have NOT to include these features? Do HBO and other manufacturers just like to mess with their customers? Is there an advantage to manufacturers to make slow loading discs and/or make you start from the beginning every time you insert a disc?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

It probably depends on how complex the menu structure is, including multiple languages, subs and extras. Also the disc that loads slower may have a lot more files. With a PC and a BD drive you can take a look and compare the structure and amount of files on a disc that loads slower and one that loads faster.

I suspect that a BD that spreads the main movie over multiple .m2ts files may also load slower and may be a bit more difficult to resume playback at the last point played.

I also suspect your concert BD is fairly simple in structure.

Encryption might play a part in all this, but I doubt it.
