Hi everyone,
It's been a week now and i still can't stop the sound from hissing when i convert it to mp2. I tried almost any softwares and settings: TMPGenc, BeSweet (toolame), etc...downmix dd5.1 ---» stereo, joint stereo or dual channel; 48 hz and 48 ---»44.1 hz; even at 320 kbps!!! etc...
On all movies...
When a listen to the WAV file produced by DVD2AVI, the sound is perfect and i even tried to convert that WAV to MP3 and again the sound was perfect!!! That's why i think the problem is the MP2 conversion!!!
It's not that it's a bad sound, it has good stereo effects, and when it's loud, we don't hear the hissing. But when there's a high-pitch sound or when it's calm, i clearly hear hissing in the background...
Obviously, i made something wrong, but i can't find what!!!
HELPPPP!
Thanks

I've been beating my head into my desk over the same problem. Here is the loooong solution that I've gotten to work in making MP2 DVD audio - and this is only using WAV files - haven't really tried with anything else yet.
Using Besweet, you have to convert you .wav file to 48khz using the ssrc plugin (a seperate download) - then just convert your new .wav to a 384/320 kbps .mp2 file using the 2lame part of besweet. Then just remux your audio and video together using tmpgenc. Don't let tmpgenc touch the audio conversion! Not sure what it does, but it doesn't get it right.
If you start out with a mp2 or mp3 audio file, I've just been using the Musicmatch demo to convert it to a wav file - I'm sure there is better software for that purpose though. -

thanks for you're help,
I'll try that, but the .wav file that i have from dvd2avi is already at 48 khz , so i don't know why you want to do that. But, i will give it a shot and give you some feedback,

Ok, i've come out with good result at last...
I found that the sound settings in the program DVD2SVCD(it's using toolame for wav2mp2) automatically normalize and boost the file. It seems, in my case, that it accentuate the high-pitch problem. By disabling those settings, the mp2 sound file was near perfect!!! By setting toolame manually and then point it in the external tools in TMPGenc(so as SSRC), everything is ok.
Hope it last...
