I've been doing some reading as of late on both of these services and i'm leaning more towards a VPN but I have a few questions before I do.

First off is some technical jargon that I know nothing about...I prefer to use a service overseas than here in the states but it seems some vpn services use an older VPN protocol called PPTP...from what I read it's not full proof but good enough if you just plan on surfing etc. I'm not sure if there's anther protocol thats more secure but does anyone know of, or have any experience with, these pay-per-month VPN'S and which one does well? Does any particular one use a more secure method of VPN?

I've been reading some in the last few days and saw where a production company recently sent out over 23,000 letters to users online who grabbed a movie illegally here in the US. Do countries overseas recognize a mandate or request from a US production firm when presented one about handing over IP users personal info etc? There seems to be a lot of seedboxes out there and i wondered if the country the seedbox service is in is liable to hand over personal info to a request. Or for that matter, the country the VPN is in, do they have to hand over the info from an ip when requested?

to the last part. yes every single isp in the u.s. is required to hand over personal info on any ip when presented with a valid court order. no ifs ands or buts.

  3. If your seedbox server is located in North Korea or Iran, Afganistan etc then I don't think they would hand over any info. I suspect there are many other countries/States that thrive on their realm outside the purview of the US authoritys. In fact surely this would be a fantastic service for the Cubans to set up. The US doesn't rule the World.
