alright i am kind of new, i have made only about 5 vcds no svcds as of yet
i want my first svcd to have subtitles, i am doing gladiator
with subtitles do i have to have them actually "glued" onto the video? or can i turn them on and off in my standalone?
if so how the heck can i do this, i have looked around and none of the manuals or tutorials say if i can turn subs on and off
any help is appreciated thanks

You can also extract the subtitles with subripper (Philips SVCD format) and then add manually with submux. SVCD subs don't work with every player, so you might have to stay with "glued2 subs.

i have done a little research and SVCD subs will work with my Apex :)
i downloaded some subtitle files with the extension .sub and tried to use them with submux
i add my mpg file and sub file, then press start or whatever, and nothing hapens it just sits there
thanks kramer and roope i will try both ways -
Your downloaded .sub files are subviewer format, not Philips SVCD format! Philips SVCD format uses also .sub extension, but the file is not a text file containind subs. Instead, for SVCD subtitles you'll have to have every single subtitle on a separate bitmap (.bmp) file, and the Philips SVCD style .sub file just contains information about the timing when to show which bitmap.
You'll have to make those bitmaps fist in order to make SVCD subtitles. Someone hinted me that these bitmaps can be generated from a text file using MaestroSBT, but I haven't tried that yet. Anyway, MaestroSBT can be found on www.doom9.org, if you want to try it.
