  1. I am looking for a clear, concise method for ripping a DVD to my PC and then having it stream to an Xbox. I know it has been asked in many different ways, and I have read many different forums/methods, but I am totally confused on how to do what I am trying to do which is:

Rip the DVD to my PC so that there is no quality loss (no compression) and then have it stream to the xbox with little to no quality loss and Dolby 5.1. Some say you have to convert this to that, others say to use something like TVersity, but then you lose 5.1.

Is there one method/program/or format I can rip the DVD to so that it also can stream to the Xbox (again with little to no quality loss and 5.1). If not, what format should I rip it to, and then what format should I convert it to for the Xbox?

My current understanding is that I need a DVR-MS formatted file. I am unclear if there is a program (VideoReDo?) that can go directly from DVD to DVR-MS, or if there is an in between of VOB, MKV, or other.
I believe I could also use a WTV. What are the pros/cons for WTV vs DVR-MS (again, if this is the way I should go).

Last, I assume there is no way to keep or access subtitles without having them permanently burned in- if there is, please let me know.

I appreciate your help as this has been rotting my brain the past few days trying to figure out what to do.

Easy...because that is what a "rip" is....an exact copy of a DVD with no changes(except copy protection removal).

DVDFabDecrypter is your best bet for the first step in my opinion.

  3. Copy that, I have used DVDFab, AnyDVD, etc before to make 1:1 back ups either to HD or DVDR, but an iso or folder (video ts) will not stream to an Xbox. The main question is: is there, or what is the best format to use to stream to the xbox while maintaining dolby 5.1 and hopefully no loss in video quality. Along with this, is there a way to preserve or select subtitles.

There always seems to be a catch with either not being able to FF or REW (single vob file), or no 5.1, or no subtitles, etc. Maybe what I'm trying to do isn't possible and I have to sacrifice one of the elements I am trying to maintain.

  4. DVr-MS is Msoft version of Mpeg2 files produced from a video source, generally a tv tuner card.
WTV is Msoft version of Mpeg2 files produced from a video source, generally a tv tuner card.
Confused? DVr-ms is from Xpmedia centre, WTV is from Windows Vista/seven media center.
Videoredo is a program that can edit these files and covert them to std Mpeg2 (its good and fast).
ABout the xbox I have no knowledge.
