  1. What's with all the pop up windows on this site now? I can't even read a whole page before I'm hit with pop up after pop up. Is this how it is going to be now (three popups just writing this message)? :-?

Too bad, it was a really wonderful site and forum.

  2. Yeah.. I understand needing popups too, to help pay the bills, etc.. But can you please avoid ones that hide in the backround and try to open multiple pages whenever you try to close them. It's like a freakin virus! It locked up my computer several times now. I'm ready to get a popup killer, or just stop comming around. It's that bad.

Popups are ok in my book.. Just make them nice popups.. ok? And then I won't need a popup killer, and we'll all be happy.

  4. This is your problems dudes:

Your computer have been infected with a spyware. That means that the application logs the sites you visiting and shows you popups that i related to that kind of site.
For X: lets say you surf on alot of porno then the popups with contain pornrelated banners.
The program not only logs sites it can also log your secret stuff like VISA cardnumbers and stuff and send it to the creater of the spyware.

The spyware comes with alot of programmas, mostly with sharingprogramms one of the most dangers spywares is Vx2 and it comes with Audiogalacxy. I can tell you that i have been infected with this kind of shit manytimes. There is a few sharing applications on the net that to have any spyware included, but i wont tell the namn because its not alowed here.

You can use this free application to search your harddrive after spywares and remove them.

okey, vcdhelper.com has popups but not vcdhelp.com. I do not own the vcdhelper.com domain, it just points to vcdhelp and now has the owner of vdchelper suddenly added popups...

  8. Well, here's a little bit on the person that owns that vcdhelpER.com domain:

    Registrant:
    Gerard Dupont III
    P.O. Box 742
    Abita Springs, La 70420
    United States

    Registrar: Go Daddy Software (http://registrar.godaddy.com)

Domain Name: vcdhelper.com Created on: 29-Oct-99

    Administrative Contact:

    985-892-4795

    Domain servers in listed order:
    NS1.X69.NET
    NS2.X69.NET

Here's a bit on the owner of the x69.net domain:

    Registrant:
Private (same guy though, no doubt)
    P.O. Box 742
    Abita Springs, La 70420
    United States

    Registrar: Go Daddy Software (http://registrar.godaddy.com)

Domain Name: x69.net Created on: 08-Jul-98

    Domain servers in listed order:
    NS1.X69.NET
    NS2.X69.NET

    x69's netblock is owned by:

    Datasync Internet Services
    (NETBLK-FON-343900160058100)
    P.O. Box 1389 Biloxi, MS 39533 US
    Netname: FON-343900160058100
    Netblock: 204.251.0.0 - 204.251.15.255
    Maintainer: DTSY Coordinator: Datasync (IA-ORG-ARIN) ipadmin@datasync.com 228-435-8888
    Record last updated on 19-Dec-2001.

A treceroute to x69.net ends with:

    22 nospr3.datasync.com (209.205.182.199) 88.862 ms
    23 dsl-174-65-nosp3.i-55.com (209.205.174.65) 101.556 ms
    24 ns1.x69.net (204.251.9.250) 114.250 ms

So, it looks like this DuPont goof is running this x69.net domain out of his home or business' DSL, and his ISP is Datasync. We traceroute to vcdhelper.com and we see:

    23 204.251.8.252 (204.251.8.252) 77.143 ms

    Datasync once again.

Abita Springs, Louisiana (pop. ~4,277) is about 30-35 miles North of New Orleans. It's a fairlyy average place (income, education, demograpics), statistically speaking, but it does have a crime rate only 2/3 of the national average - and a murder rate 10 pct higher than the national average (pop-up site owners getting snuffed, perhaps?)

Here's what some of you probably want to know, a home address:

Gerard Dupont Jr, (985) 892-4795, 74152 Mcintyre Rd, Abita Springs, LA 70420-2116

That's much better than a cryptic P.O. Box!
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  9. Yeah I knew it wasn't SPYWARE.. cuz I use Adaware. But I haven't been able to use the site from my home computer cuz the popups cause an error in explorer.

Anyway.. good to hear that I should be able to use vcdhelp.com to avoid it.. or better yet, turn on my pop up stopper. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't ripping off VCDHELP in the process.

I have nothing against pop ups to help pay the bills.. Just not the anoying, repopup kind.

  10. Baldrick, I dont know whether you are aware of certain scripts available that will pop up a warning message to the user saying something like "VCDHelper is not our site! Please change your bookmarks to VCDHelp, yada yada yada". Then it will stop them from coming to the site from that address. I will see whether I can find a site with the script on but for now I am pretty sure it is on this site

x69 helped me to host vcdhelp in the beginning and he also fixed vcdhelps first own domain, vcdhelper.com. But later the hosting became to expensive for x69 so I moved the site and I also registered an own domain but I could still use vcdhelper...so I never bothered about that domain...until now

It may help if other sites gave the right link in the first place.
http://www.mpegx.com/links.asp<-These guys list www.vcdhelper.com as the main site and www.vcdhelp.com as a mirror.
