    I think there is probably a lot of software out there that will do this. What's a good freeware one?

    what codec was used? Use gspot or avicodec to find out.

    virtualdub should be able to handle most. Create an avisynth file if it doesn't read it.

    Avidemux is another.

    Depending on the type of video that is in the avi we might need to recommend different software.
    Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    vlc. press record button and stop.

    hi. It is an XviD file. Should i try avi demux first? Would it be simpler than Vdub?

  7. Try Windows Movie Maker. It's free. Cuttings a piece of p...! Just snip and delete the unwanted sections.
    Make sure you use Timeline mode is all.
