I recorded 30 minutes of video last night with my Palm Pre Plus. When I shut off the recording, it started processing....and then the phone was knocked off the table.
When I open the file to play, it shows 30 minutes....yet only 30 seconds plays with sound and picture. After that, it goes dark and quiet and continues playing for 30 minutes. Any idea on how to take this mp4 file and finalize it so that I can have the complete file?
I've contacted Palm, and they've told me that there are no hidden files...this is the file I have to work with, and they have no idea as to how to fix the mp4 file. So I came here. You folks have never let me down.
And incidentally, it was a friend singing....I REALLY want the audio, if nothing else.

We hear similar things quite often here actually. A user turns off the device too soon, unplugs the device too soon or runs to the very end of their memory capacity and viola...an almost unrecoverable recording. Some softwares can open the files (like AviDemux and others) but mostly the list of resources dwindles to "hex editors" which is absolutely ZERO fun at all and quite frankly a last-gasp at saving the recording.

Thanks for the title change....it IS a bit more descriptive, but I wanted to make sure I grabbed someone's attention. I will try the suggestions made, and let you know how it pans out. Any other suggestions will be equally welcome!
My fingers, toes and eyes are crossed....let's hope something works. -
I have tried YAMB, since I couldn't download mp4boxgui ... I'm running 64 bit Windows 7.
The problem seems to be that there is 30 minutes of Video...and only 30 seconds of audio. Am I screwed?Last edited by unipenguin; 17th Feb 2011 at 14:50.

Your problem is not unique. There has been limited success with using a hex code editor, there are no gurantees. The header, or end are usually corrupted. By using a hexcode editor to copy the uncorrupted portion from a working file made on the same device and overwriting the data in the corrupted one may work, or not. If you are desperate post the requested data somewhere and I'll take a look at it when I am off work.

wow, that's a very generous offer. I've put the file here:

Thank you for your help. I can usually find a way to make things work, but must admit that I am completely in over my head. The audio is what i TRULY want, since the video seems to be completely black.
