Recently, I acquired the Sharp BD player that I mentioned above and I've had some troubles with the upscaling, since when I put a DVD on (of a movie that has excellent picture quality) the picture quality gets worse and does not seem to be presenting any HD features.
I have the BD player plugged into my TV (22'' Full HD TV) via HDMI.
I hope I can get some help!

What are you expecting as far as 'HD features' go ? Your DVD is a standard definition source. The best you can hope for is that it gets scaled up to 1080 without being blurry or too soft. Are you sure that the BD player is actually upscaling the source, and not sending it through at standard definition and letting the TV upscale it ?

I saw some upscaled DVDs and they looked pretty good.
But when I tried with the DVD of The Last House on the Left (the remake) it did not look right. It looked way worse than in any other DVD player. and it is upposed to look better, right?
But you made me question myself, and since I found nothing about it (the BD player clearly states that it will upscale DVDs up to 1080p) , I´m going to have to reveal my ignorance and ask you if there is anything I can do to be certain that that is the case.
Thanks! -
The Sharp BD player may have a setting specific to DVDs where you tell it whether to upscale or not. It's also slightly possible that for DVD playback your TV is having problems syncing up with the BD player via HDMI and if so the BD player may be sending 480i or 480p output to the TV and letting your TV upscale. Your TV should have an option on the remote control to tell you what the input is when you are watching something on it.
If you think that you are having an HDMI sync issue because your TV shows 480i/p input when you watch DVDs then you'll have to try various things like starting the BD player first and then the TV or vice-versa to see if that helps.
