    rotus old friend,
I believe we've covered this before, but a simple way to do this is to open the
file in QT Pro, and then extract the files components out: First extract the video to
a QT Mov file with no audio.
Next extract the audio out as a aiff file, 48khz, 16bit, 2 channel. This is all done in the Movie Properties Window
    (Window-->Show Movie Properties)

    Close out the original file.

Open the Audio AIFF first, making note of the time. ( say ex. 1:41:32)
    then
Open the Video file ( the QT .mov) with no audio. Make note of the time ( say ex. 1:41:35)

With the Video file selected in the forefront, go Select All ( Apple-A) then Copy ( apple-c)
    then select the audio file.
    perform a Select all ( apple-a)
then perform an Add Movie Selection and Scale.
This will reforce the video to "fit" to the audio.
Save this as a Self Contained Movie with a new name.

Provided that this is just a matter of timing, that should fix the issue.
However, if their are dropouts in the video / audio that cause it to be out of sync,
that is a matter that has to be fixed a different way using Mpeg Streamclip.

  8. begging terryj (The Great One) for a little more help:

what i did was cut/ paste the section of the original QT file that was out of sync

    this created a file "section".mov

then I used file>export>Movie to AVI and to the right 'options' I deselected sound and left video checked

this took about 2 hrs for a 800 mb movie

I then used export sound to AIFF

the exported movie was fairly grainy compared with the original.

when oppening the AIFF I get the file on iTunes, not on the desk top. so Im sort of stuck.

    any other ideas?

    many thanks for your time!

    Rotus,

re follow my steps, only do not save as AVI until after you have completed them.

What you basically did wrong was to try and make the .avi before fixing your audio sync problem!

Go back, follow my steps exactly. I have fixed my steps, in a couple of places I meant to say
"extract' instead of "Export". I have fixed this, sorry for any confusion.

then when you have the file fixed as a .mov file, THEN you can go at the last step where I say:

you will then instead then Export Movie to AVI, and under options, choose "none" for compression.
Leave the audio as is. This will maintain the quality of the original.
