  1. Hello

The situation - I have a DVD and a 1080p MKV of the same anime movie. The DVD has the english dubbed track which the MKV does not - I would like to extract this english audio track from the DVD and put it into the MKV, but I have a problem.

By the end of the movie, the DVD is 8 seconds ahead of the MKV - that is, pausing both videos on the same video frame near the end of the movie, even though it's the same frame, the time index on the DVD is 1:59.01 whereas the MKV is 1:59.09.

It seems the time increase is gradual - at the beggining of the movie, the frame and time indexes are the same, and playing side by side I do not notice any difference in speed between the two (the camera angle changes and music audio pitch seem the same). Halfway through the movie, the difference is about 4 seconds. I don't know if the difference in speed between the two files is due to small sections of the movie being cut from the DVD, or because the DVD just plays a little quicker.

My question - How do I edit the english audio track so that it fits correctly time wise into the MKV? Is there software out there that can analyze both videos and tell me whether small sections were cut from the DVD or if the DVD just plays quicker? Can some software tell me precisely how much silence I need to add to the english audio track at various stages between scenes to pad it out and make up the 8 second difference?

I ask as I would prefer not to have to watch the movie and do it myself - I haven't seen the movie before and would prefer not to see as much as the movie as possible whilst editing it.

    Thanks

    No such software.

You can just try stretch then entire audio clip by 8 seconds with for example audacity, goldwave. But if the DVD is edited a bit different it wont help.

  3. Can audacity or goldwave stretch the audio but keep the pitch intact?

How can I measure the exact time difference between the two files, so I can accurately work out how much I need to stretch or add?

  4. With audacity, you can actually open video files in the program, even though it's only designed to edit audio tracks. So, if you open both tracks into audacity it will allow you to see the length accurately and make your adjustments there.
