  1. Hello, I'm looking for a program that will let me split a video timeline into different segments, and then "stretch/extend" or "compress/shrink" the time of these segments differently to match the different cues of a music file. (So it's not simply a time delay or "global speed fix" thing.)

So, if I need a part of the video to be shorter to match the music, I could compress it. And, if I need to match another part with an audio cue that is ahead of the video, I could stretch the segment and match it.

I've already tried with Corel VideoStudio, Wondershare, MAGIX Video Pro, and Sony Vegas, but either they can't do what I want, or I didn't get how to do it. (Vegas was particularly confusing for me.)

I'm frustrated because I have done this before to make a video, but I forgot what program I used. I thought for sure that MPEG Video Wizard was the program I had used, but trying it again has not worked (it can split the video into segments, but moving the edges of the segments simply moves the selection time, instead of stretching or compressing the time). Maybe I'm missing something. Please help me with this or any other program that you know may help me.

PS. I know that you can do this and a lot more with After Effects and Premiere or whatever. But I wouldn't want this to be the solution. I could only get trials of them, and I don't know the basics of those programs, I don't want to start learning all about these programs from scratch just for one measly function I want to use.

Corel videostudio ... should be simple, add clips (snip to required bits) ... once done clear timeline ... then place music on time line, add video segment 1 and align, then segment 2 and align ... continue till happy.

Click each segment on timeline so it apears in the preview window ... then an option should show which allows for play time adjustment, speed up or slower ... just dont like the new style ... copy cats trying on adobe skins style which looks horrid.

Adobe premier elements can sync clips to the beat of any chosen music track ... but then its not perfect enough for my standards ... still with videostudio ... years later

  3. Thanks Bjs, I tried Corel with your instructions (more or less ) and it's done the job well enough. So problem solved!

Still, I swear I had done this with Video Wizard, but I still can't tell how... oh well, I'll live.
