I'm trying to convert mpg to mp4 using command line tools. What I did is to use FormatFactory and do a conversion and then use Procexp to check the commandline the FormatFactory called. What I get is this:

    "D:\Program Files\FreeTime\FormatFactory\FFModules\mencoder.exe" "E:\data\file.mpg" -o "E:\data\file.avi" -vf scale=363:272,expand=480:272,harddup -af channels=2 -ofps 18 -srate 44100 -oac faac -faacopts br=128:mpeg=4bject=2 -ovc lavc -ffourcc DX50 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=512:vstrict=1:mbd=0:keyint=2 50:vmax_b_frames=0:v4mv:trell:threads=2 -mc 3 -subfont "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\simhei.ttf" -subpos 100 -subcp cp936,UTF-8,UTF-16 -subfont-text-scale 4n

I get a file.avi. I rename it to file.mp4 and I manage to play it on the PC. But when I sync to my iPhone, it does not show up as a video file. Can anybody advise me what is the proper command line to convert to mp4 so that iPhone is able to play it ? Thanks.

You can't just rename it to avi and expect it to work.

Can't you select a mp4 iphone profile in formatfactory and then use that command line instead? Or else google for ffmpeg mp4 iphone settings.
