    Hi all,
I'm not sure if this forum is the right place to post this but I think it is, as this doesn't really fit anywhere else.
Does anyone know how to contact the sound engineer(s) that create 5.1 mixes for films that didn't originally have them? ...
For instance, the DVD of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" lets you listen to either the original 1.0 Mono release or the 5.1 remaster. If you go to the IMDB it only lists all those involved in the original release. I have no clue how to even know the name(s) of those involved in the 5.1 version. Don't get me wrong... I'm not naive enough to think that I'll find their email address(es), but hopefully I can find something.
Obviously the example above is far from complete. Almost all of those originally in Mono have the 5.1 (or above) option.
I hope someone can help me out, as merely contacting New Line will doubtfully get me very far.
    Thanks,
    Justin

The original film had a mono "mix" but that's the rub -- they just make a new mix from the individual tracks.

One of the few exceptions I can think of is Fantasia, and that mess is worth reading about.
It was a truly mono master for some parts, due to loss of the original tracks.

Wow. I've never read of such a, well, mess, as you said. That's a shame. I really hope this isn't commonplace with most films :/

Hollywood movie studios have the be some of the worst archivists ever.
It's very common, although may not to that extent.
