  1. It's an MPG file, I don't have the original VHS tape.

  2. Looks like it was blend deinterlaced. I don't know if that problem is in the MPG file or if it was done by the software you used to make the image. There are all kinds of things you could do with the video. But you'll have to provide a video sample. And advanced filtering will require AviSynth. You can use Mpg2Cut2 or DgIndex to extract a short clip to upload here.

Jagabo is correct, often we can't tell much from a still image. If you never used DGIndex for a VOB or MPG sample, there's a quick tutorial from a former member here: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/359295-Record-without-interlacing?p=2272359&viewful...=1#post2272359. Mpg2Cut2 also works but I've never used it.

That's not the issue; it's a problem with still graphics as well, suddenly comes in midway through the video, and is always left-right by the same amount regardless of what motion is going on.

Yes it is the issue if all your "still graphics" are coming from capping a VHS which has no steady timebase. Horizontal placement looks to be constantly fluctuating: that turns "stills" into motion video by virtue of the jitteryness. There are other problems also involved here due to the way this was capped, some of which may never be completely cured/alleviated.

Very bad stuff. The video is progressive, encoded as interlaced. That's not all: every frame is duplicated. At some point it was maybe field-blend deinterlaced ? ?

To add to the grief, there was definitely no line tbc. Look at the left-hand border:

    Don't see much hope here.

That's a shame. Color's not too bad (red is oversaturated a bit and starting to bloom. but you can't have everything). The bad ripples and jitter can't be repaired after caprture -- can be fixed only during tape play. Extensive field blending can't be repaired, either. Where the dupe frames came from is anyone's guess. Any idea about how this tape was captured ? (not that it would help at this point).

Looks as if koberutz got stuck.

  10. The video was blend deinterlaced at some point. In addition, for much of the clip one field was shifted to the right by about 5 pixels before the blend deinterlace. That's what causing blending artifacts on stationary elements. I see no way of fixing that. In the top half of this 4x enlargement you can see the video before the field shift, the bottom after:

You could fix the colors and reduce the noise but I don't think it's worth it.
